Liberal Democrats in Government have prioritised creating jobs and apprenticeships. Two million people have now started an apprenticeship since 2010. Vince Cable, the Lib Dem Business Minister, has made it easier for businesses to take on apprentices. He has given 40,000 businesses grants of up to £1,500 for each young unemployed person they take on as an apprentice and put £550m into improving college facilities for apprentices.

Commenting on the good news, Julia said:

"Liberal Democrats promised to create more apprentices and that is exactly what we have done. This commitment is now beginning to pay off handsomely here in Cornwall. In a recent visit to Coastline Housing with Lib Dem Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander I could see that confidence shining through in the apprentices being trained there.

"In reaching our goal to create two million apprenticeships in this parliament we have equipped more young people with the confidence and skills that employers need. Apprenticeships open up exciting opportunities for young people and help them to secure good jobs.

"Under Labour, the economy came close to collapse and youth unemployment soared. Liberal Democrats in Government have started to build a stronger economy and a fairer society so that more people can get on in life."

Liberal Democrat Business Secretary Vince Cable added:

"Reaching the 2 millionth apprenticeship is testament to this Government's commitment to apprenticeships. But this isn't just about numbers. From space engineering, to TV production, to legal services, apprenticeships are the ticket to a great job and a route employers trust to access the skills they need."
